Hikes

To get to know Montserrat you can take years, decades, even a lifetime isn't enough to know it all. We hope to help visitors and nature lovers to find what they are looking for when they go for a hike on the mountain.

The district of Marganell and it's 'Routa de Hermitas' provides us with some of the most spectacular views of the north face of the mountain, whilst covering relativley flat terrain and passing through small villages and Romanic ruins, here we can get to know the history of the valleys that surround the mountain.

The Monastry situated on the eastern part of the mountain and its surrounding area provides us with a more informative excursion; the 'audio visual' exposition is shown within the monastry precinct and explains the mountains geology, formation, and it's spiritual and religous history.

Above the current monastry we can climb up to the the ruins of ancient monastries partially destroyed in the early 1800's by Napoleons army, these monastries are situated in some of the most beautiful parts of the eastern half of the mountain and give us a glimpse of what living in Montserrat must have been like hundreds of years ago.

The south- western part of Montserrat takes us into wilder terrain, we can walk along the crests of the rock pinnacles and clamber through the wooded valleys taking in the the amazing views and mabye getting a glimpse of one of the wild goats or boars that inhabit the mountain.

We can also enjoy the views of Montserrat by taking a walk through the forests and olive groves of the southern side, pausing in the small picturesque villages of Collbato and El Bruc.
